Budapest is possibly our favourite city break in Europe and with those big shoes to fill we have already shared with you our top 5 things to do in Budapest. But we loved Budapest so much we found it really hard to stick to just 5 amazing things to do so here are 5 more things to do on your long weekend in Budapest.
1. Take in the view from Fisherman’s Bastion
For the best views of Budapest, take a walk up the hill to Fisherman’s Bastion. The terraces which are open to the public are the most picturesque sights in the city and offer a fantastic view over the Danube to the imposing Hungarian parliament.
2. Go on a free walking tour
Regular readers know that we love a free walking tour. In fact one of the first things we do when planning a weekend away is research the best free walking tours and plan one into our itinerary. We think that walking tours are a great way to discover a city and Budapest is no different. In fact, the free walking tour in Budapest was one of our favourites so far. Our guide spoke excellent English, gave us loads of information about Budapest’s history and culture and provided us with an excellent tour of the city centre.
3. Check out the food market at the Central Market Hall
If you are only in Budapest for a short break – make sure you save time to try a Lángos in the Central Market Hall near the Liberty Bridge. The ground floor of the Central Market Hall is a typical market but on the upper level there are a number of small cafes and bars offering authentic Hungarian cuisine. They are well worth a visit but you might have to wait for a seat.
4. Explore at Night
Budapest is a beautiful city at any time of day but we think that it really comes into its own at night. All of the famous sights and monuments are lit up and it is truly breathtaking. Head back over to Fisherman’s Bastion for the best view or go on a short river cruise for a different perspective. Avoid the dinner cruises though – they’re really not worth it!
5. Check out the spa at the Corinthia Hotel
If you took our advice and booked into the Corinthia Hotel in Budapest then you are probably feeling very smug and already having the most luxurious of stays in Budapest. If you want to make your stay even better make sure you check out the spa in the basement of the hotel that is included in your stay. The spa itself is stunning and has so much on offer including jacuzzis, saunas and a steam room. What better way to relax after a busy day exploring this wonderful city.
