As much as we would love to spend all of our time travelling, there is so much to see and do in our home town of London. Every now and then we will be sharing with you some of our favourite things to do in London. So if you’re travelling to the UK or are fellow Londoners, why not check in to Motown: The Musical.
Now for full disclosure, we didn’t actually pay for these tickets. The tickets were the top prize in my work Christmas raffle which my boss won. Unfortunately for him he doesn’t like Motown or musicals but knew someone who did…me! He very kindly offered me the tickets and so the Clock Out Check In team got to visit the Shaftesbury Theatre earlier this year.
Motown: The Musical follows the story of Barry Gordy, the founder of the Motown record label. He helped launch the career of some of the biggest artists in history including Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. Over the decades his influence over the music industry stretched across the globe bringing unprecedented success. His story is supported by a wide selection of the best known Motown hits including My Girl, ABC, Superstition and Heard It Through the Grapevine.
The performance was excellent. For us, the stand out performers were Natalie Kassanga who played Diana Ross and Carl Spencer who played Marvin Gaye but all of the cast were incredible and energetic throughout. The choreography and staging were well executed and the ensemble numbers really lifted the performance. We thoroughly enjoyed the show and would highly recommend to any Motown lovers visiting London.
Motown: The Musical is playing at the Shaftesbury Theatre until 20 April 2019. After that, you can see it on tour across the UK.
