Plockton - Scotland

Staycations are in and whether you are looking for a social media detox or an activity to get your heart racing, there are so many things that you can do right here in the UK on your staycation. This summer we had an amazing holiday in Scotland with Alex’s family. During our time in Plockton, Hannah and I did a Beginners Sea Kayaking Class and I couldn’t recommend it more. Here is how the day went…

The Setting

Imagine Plockton, a stunning village set in a small bay deep in the Scottish highlands. This beautiful rural area has all the amenities you need for an incredible staycation with lovely views over Loch Carron. This was also our setting for a day’s sea-kayaking with Sea Kayak Plockton.

The walk around the Loch to Duncraig Castle is the perfect afternoon stroll if you don’t mind a little mud and some rather large cows blocking the footpath!

The Class

The kayaking class was run by the wonderful Alison French. Alison was incredibly friendly and very experienced at running these classes. She put us at ease straight away and gave us so many tips and tricks which helped make our time on the water the best it could be!

The class started on a small sheltered bay a five minute drive from Plockton. The views when out on the water were just incredible. The class is a guided coastal tour discovering beautiful scenery and landscapes. There is no shortage of secluded bays, small islands to stop on and panoramic views.

We were lucky and even got up close to a herd of seals! It was a magical experience, the water was still and we were surrounded by 10 seals with their little heads popping out of the water. We could have sat there for hours just watching them appearing and reappearing.

Another amazing moment was enjoying our lunch on one of the small islands, we pulled up and stretched our legs and enjoyed the view. Here are a few photos of us taking ten to have our packed lunch.

The Outcome

And the outcome of the beginners kayaking class…a day of exploration and fun! I couldn’t recommend this experience more. If you are looking for a chance to try something new or pick up some more tips and tricks as a more experienced kayaker then this is the tour company to go with! You can do longer excursions starting at £360 for three days and day classes from £85.

I promise you will enjoy it!
