If you’re dreaming of winter sun, fascinating history and world famous cuisine – then the real question is why haven’t you been to Mexico already? With a number of direct 8 hour flights to this Central American destination from across the UK, Mexico is one of the best options for winter sun and luxury beachfront resorts. If you’re looking for beaches as well as culture we would recommend flying into Cancun and staying in the Riviera Maya region. This offers you the perfect combination of white sandy beaches and close proximity to the majestic Chichen Itza and other cultural sites.
On our last trip to Mexico we stayed at the incredible TUI Sensatori Resort Riviera Cancun. Amazing 5* resort run by Karisma and sold in the UK through TUI. The hotel was located on the beach front and less than an hour away from Cancun airport. With a private beach as well as a number of pools to choose from, this really was the perfect winter sun getaway. Karisma also offer a gourmet all-inclusive concept which means that everything is included from all of food and drink to the mini bar and room service. The hotel also offers excursions to Tulum and Chichen Itza which we would thoroughly recommend.

TUI Sensatori Resort Riviera Cancun
Currency – Mexican Peso (although most hotels will accept US Dollars).
Best time to visit – The best time to visit Cancun is between December and April which is the peak season in this part of the world. We visited at the end of November and had incredible weather and as a result of visiting just before peak seaon the resort was slightly quieter. As its a tropical climate, rain can be expected but most showers are fast and will not impact your stay.
Accommodation – We loved our stay at the TUI Sensatori Riviera Cancun and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Cancun for the first time. There are a number of luxury beach front hotels in this region and I am sure that a number of them are fantastic places to stay. Our top tip is to check what is included in your stay. We noticed that a number of hotels were advertised as all-inclusive but there were so many add-ons that the holiday would have ended up being a great deal more expensive.
Food – the one downside of staying in a resort is that you are away from civilisation and can’t venture out of the hotel for some fantastic local food. That said – the TUI Sensatori Riviera Maya does have a great Mexican restaurant and you can dine at Le Chique restaurant once during your stay if you are a TUI customer. The tasting menu at Le Chique was one of the most incredible experiences of our stay and well worth the visit!
How much will it cost me – unfortunately, trips to Mexico don’t come cheap which is in most part due to the cost of the trans-atlantic flight to get there. You can book a week at TUI Sensatori Riviera Cancun the start of December from £1066 per person on a gourmet all-inclusive basis.
There‘s no such thing as a specific authenticity to what Mexico is, because Mexico is incredibly complex and varies, and the food is completely different if you travel 50 kilometers. It just changes all the time.
If all this talk of winter sun and coctkails by the pool has made you long for a post-lockdown trip to Mexico, then check out the rest of our content to find out why you should be travelling to Cancun for some winter sun this year.
As foodies, we loved the gourmet all-inclusive experience. But what should you look out for when booking your next all-inclusive holiday?
We think that package holidays unfairly have a bad reputation amongst younger travellers. We ask are package holidays worth it?
Mexico has become an increasingly popular destination with British travellers. Here’s what we thought of our stay at the Azul Beach Resort Riviera Cancun.
